Trough gardening was initiated by the British collectors when they started alpine garden plantations in old horse troughs, thus the name garden trough. Garden troughs are generally stone structures with a longish narrow depression. They created tiny gardens in the troughs.
They are manufactures in a variety of shapes and finishes and give an antique look to the garden. They can even be custom made as per the garden requirements. A stone trough can be of marble, granite, sandstone or even lime stone. They can be beautifully carved and crafted or be very rough and crude. Crude troughs with moss cover are the latest fascination.
